Thank you, Dick, for all of the fond memories you have left me with, and I am sure so many others.
The twinkle in your eyes, your common sense when it came to our local government and all the laughs we shared at some of the "buffoonish" moments witnessed by all at meetings.
We will all miss you; may you rest in peace. To your family, thank you for sharing him with us!

I never met Mr. Stewart except on the blogs. We were usually on the opposite side of things. That said, I have to give him credit for at least two things.
One, he put his name to what he said. Two, in his race for office, he did put foward an idea--a revolving loan fund for first time home buyers.
In Mr. Stewart's memory, I would challenge all candidates to actually put foward their ideas. 95% of all the candidates need to heed this challenge. I would also challenge all bloggers to stand by their statements, as DICK STEWART did.
Rest easy Mr. Stewart.

Thank you for posting this tribute. Like you I remember seeing Dick at the council meetings. We always sat in the front row and watched the proceedings. We usually disagreed but always had a good time.
He emailed numerous Democrat jokes especially jokes about Hillary. I returned the favor by sending him any "Dubya" joke I could find.
He will be missed my many of us.
Your article is very kind and complimentary to Dick Stewart. We all appreciated Dick's courage and his humor as he had the courage to stand up and call a spade a spade.
The newspaper now reports that Sam
Anderson will be on the ballot for the Council seat that Dick Stewart had won in the primary.
It would be fitting for people to vote for Anderson as a memorial
to the memory of Dick Stewart.
In addition, the voters would
compliment the community spirit and
talents of Sam Anderson as he has the courage to step up to the plate and help to improve our city.
go Sam Anderson, Jeff Gahan is a double talking , all for himself politician. He wants a pension for council members who have 8 years of service and only cares about whats in it for him, also he has led the charge to create this tax payer wasting citizens committee to redraw the council districts.
Anerson cares about the city, Gahan cares about only his own agenda, vote the bum out.
As I do not know Mr. Anderson -- only through his restaurant, which we enjoy from time to time; and as I do not know for fact that is on Mr. Gahan's agenda...
There is some type of involvement on his part with the redistricting issue; though I'm not too sure why unless he would pick up more Republican voters. Who knows?
To his credit, I will give him kudos for holding Council's feet to the fire over "sewer" and "stormwater" project lists.
Maybe they don't even need the two Boards, i.e., sewers and stormwater; let's streamline and make Council responsible.
Simply mentioning it because I've heard it said before from others. One fact is for sure -- we've got TOOO many Boards for and at taxpayers expense.
That's my opinion, anyway.
I can still see Dick Stewart shaking his head and laughing at the "buffoonish" moments at meetings. He definitely had a common sense approach to government and couldn’t understand why many of those decisions were made (neither could many of us). He had a spirit and strength of a true American. He stood up at Council meetings and said what he thought. He wanted taxpayers’ money spent in the best way possible. I think he chose to run for office because he wasn’t a sit on the sidelines type of guy. He would have made a difference - a better city.
May God bless him and his family. I pray all his family and friends will remember all the special moments they had with this very exceptional man - and smile. I see him smiling back.
Susan
