Susan, I know Richard won't let you have your laptop in the hospital (even though you think it would help pass that time), you just hurry up and get well. Nothing but the best. Love ya, girlfriend.
The same old hullabaloo is going on since you entered the hospital. Sometimes, I am awed by the thoughts and actions of certain individuals "involved" in/with our City government. Thus, the title -- seems like there is a song out there with that lyric in it. Old age, you know.
In my opinion, one blogger (Susan keeps me up on a lot of them) insulted half the town with one article. The "swill" article about the beer run downtown. Let's see, the Hitching Post, Pasttimes, Goodtimes, Hugh E. Bir's, the Redman's, and the VFW were all involved.
To want to move the Harvest Homecoming completely out of New Albany by the very people on DNA who "want to bring business into New Albany" really put me in stitches. In my opinion, it's because the Bistro failed; the SpeakEasy's paychecks for their Employees bounced and Conner's had a good crowd because of the mighty Eddie Wieglieb and the Traveling Mojos -- but they had their bathrooms padlocked. Little Chef didn't have a booth set up and they made their money. Kaiser's Tobacco always has a booth out front and makes money. DNA even gets what? All or half of the monies collected from the Parking Garage WE, THE CITIZENS, are still paying for; and you want to move it out of New Albany?
By referring to the Mayor's luncheon as a kick-off to the "swill" walk; man -- got all City and County officials on that one, huh? Seeing I've attended same luncheon (and tickets are impossible to come by), I don't remember alcohol being served at same.
Citizens are going to ask Council to retrieve an accounting of DNA'S receipts and disbursements for the past three years. If they want more monies from us, WE (more than I) want to see accountability.
Another thing that has truly fascinated me...no offense anyone (just my opinion), but this City did not get in the shape it is in overnight and it's not going to get out of this shape overnight. How can you look at a man that was in office for eight years and think he's going to get things right this time? Or do something this time differently with building inspections, code enforcements, sewers, and on, and on, and on?
Seeing a well respected Democrat named Larry Dennison is heading up Hubbard's campaign speaks volumes as to how some Democrats feel. You want enforcement? You want the right thing done? As Hubbard stated to me, "everything wrong with this town is due to lack of enforcement". Amen.
This is what makes me think the cityofnewalbany.blogspot.com is truly an entity of this fair City. Nothing else makes any sense or logic at all, and if it isn't logical, it just isn't right. Clean Up New Albany, a Code Enforcement Officer (who's great -- just not a whole lot getting done, huh), the same people coming in -- AGAIN. Please, someone, tell me what has changed?
Sewers are percolating this past weekend and this week, Susan... Was able to proceed and just guess at certain things without your tremendous knowledge.
Again, get well soon, friend...I'll stop my rambling with my opinions now...
P.S. And I love that picture of Baron Hill posted with the women at the Bistro. Look carefully at the table, and I'm pretty sure it's wine, maybe a screwdriver, maybe a long island tea, and lo and behold there is "swill" sitting in a "huggie". Where's that $BREW at? Just me being obnoxious and pointing out the obvious and being my opiniated self. Hee, Hee.

I am so sorry that Susan is ill. Please tell her I wish her well and am praying for her.
I'm glad that Mr. Hubbard said SOMETHING to you. Would you please ask him to say SOMETHING to the rest of us?
Yes, I plan on attending the Q &
A tonight at the library. It seems to be the only way to get any info but I am not very hopefull about that either.(nice that the rescheduled council meeting is at the same time--bah humbug)
If you think that I am all for Mr. England because I have picked on Mr. Hubbard, well...
With your contacts, could you find out if Mr. England's "Doug's Vision" links really have any details "behind" them. The links on his website don't work. Are the details empty? Not a good sign for leadership of our city. Or, is he incapable of hiring a qualified webmaster? Again, not a good sign for leadership of our city.
My quest goes on and time is short. I know it is hard for you to believe, but I really am trying to learn something.
Correction
Think I wrote "tonight" on the Q & A. I meant tomorrow night, Wednesday.
You are right, New Albanian...I wouldn't hold my breath. Thanks for reading. As a person who watches the walk; not listening to the talk...you have some things to prove to me.
And, I know who my neighbors are...most of 'em will tell you I really don't care what a lot of them think...we got some real doozies on this street. Trust me...I know who my friends are, do you?
DNA is a joke, they dont even meet their mandate which is defined by HUD, its time for the city to pull their funding from these wanna be's.
and Democrats need to remember Doug has been a BIG PART of the PAST PROBLEMS, so you're right Yvonne, Hubbard is the better alternative hands down.
Now this crowd is backing England because they think Hubbard is not progressive, well they need to get to know him and not embrace the all flash and no substance Dougie.
We know what his 8 years as Mayor were like, can we say $3 million in legal fees to fight the EPA and no sewer fix, questionable business practices and relationships with Joe Pavoni, developers allowed to build without acountability to what they did to infrastructure, tax abatements handed out like christmas candy, want more?
No thanks I will take my chances with Hubbard
Dear IAMHOOSIER: Hope you learned a lot tonight at the Library. Sincerely, I hope you saw what I see, the substance -- not the flash. How can those links work? There would be no substance nor facts to back up same.
To any offended, this is my opinion; nothing personal -- just business -- MY business and TAXPAYER'S BUSINESS...
Peace.
Sorry, IAMHOOSIER, I mean tomorrow night, Wednesday. Oooops. Walk up to the man and shake his hand and talk with him. You will be glad you did.
Peace.
Welcome home, girlfriend! Hope you get caught up on all the rest they don't let you have in the hospital.
Last night's City Council meeting was pretty uneventual. The ordinance they worked on behind closed doors (against the Judge's Orders) on redistricting was not brought to the Table. The one Council passed at the beginning of the month stood.
New person put on Storm Water Board; not sure of the name or who they are.
Heard the questions submitted to the Mayoral Candidates at the Library last night had a good draw of people.
MeeMaw's Angel #3 is wearing her out. Pshew -- got to take my nap, that means I'll never get to sleep later. Oh, well. I have to admit he's worth it!
BTW, New Albanian, nope -- not publishing your comments. Practicing some of that "comment moderation" and all that other stuff you taught us so well.
Peace, NA.
I am back home! Wish I had had my laptop with me, while I was in the hospital. Richard said I was too sick and wouldn’t bring it. Now I have to spend a lot of time in cyberspace to catch up.
Thank you Shirley and all the others who sent me get-well wishes and prayers!!! It is great, knowing people are thinking about you and miss you. I truly believe the prayers gave me strength and helped me dodge surgery. I understand I may get a surprise and have to do that thing someday, but right now is not the time. Maybe God has a few things for me to finish doing right now, and sent me a ‘hurry it up’ message.
Last time I entered the hospital for surgery, was in 2001, the day before the sewer board meeting, where the city entered into the first EMC contract. (Did they hear I was going into the hospital?) They said they hired EMC because EMC would get the EPA out of New Albany. They’ve had over six years now and it still hasn’t happened!
First thing this woman wanted to do after getting out of the hospital was get my hair washed, cut and styled. I traveled to see to my favorite beautician at Stranz and Threadz in New Albany. Then, on our trip out to Meijers, we encountered a sickening septic sewer smell out by Sam’s Restaurant on Charlestown Rd. Wonder if that smell cuts down on his customers. On Charlestown Road at Meijers I saw were construction has begun as part of Basin 35 Phase 1 expansion/repair. Yvonne, that is where everyone sees us in the creek, as they drive-by.
Can’t blame Randy Hubbard for not wanting to be in the same room as Doug England for a debate or discussion. Doug can raise a person’s blood pressure. He sure used to raise mine. I remember when Doug was a Republican, working for Bob Real’s administration. Then he showed up running as a Democrat for Mayor. Some bloggers think Council meetings now days are bad. They should have attended some of the meetings, when Doug was Mayor. Talk about a Mayor not working with the Council!!!
Sewer Board Attorney under Mayor England, Glen Hancock, didn’t seem to like it, when I would report sewer problems. Seems I remember Mayor England’s administration policy was more along the lines of - if you don’t see pollution violations, they didn’t happen.
I have a question about DNA member, Ed Clere. Does anyone know if he is the same Ed Clere who was a ‘Tribune’ reporter in the 1990s? I think he may be the person that I gave some of Mayor England’s Credit Card expenses to. He wrote a big front-page story about it, but didn’t print everything. Probably could have been a series of articles.
Wish I could have been there with cameras and maps in hand, during the rain events. K and E Environmental should have been out and around checking manholes. I wonder if EMC was out looking also and will record what they saw. The EMC October booklet with all of that information should be out November 15. I guess it will be up to Mayor Garner to talk to EPA to decide what happens next. Has that Consent Decree between the city, EPA and the Department of Justice been signed yet? It hasn’t been noticed in the ‘Federal Register’ for the public comment period. Perhaps, the new Mayor and Sewer Board will meet with EPA to FIND OUT WHY NEW ALBANY CANNOT FIX THE SEWER PROBLEM AFTER SPENDING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF MONEY!!! Maybe some good old investigation is in order! Is there a law enforcement officer in the house? Calling Randy Hubbard!!! He was great with the Anti-Crime Watch group. Do you think there have been any crimes going on with the sewers?
A Chinese Proverb that fits right here is, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” Anyone going for a Doug England for Mayor - fool me three times…?
Susan
We surely are glad you are safe & sound, girlfriend! Welcome back to cyber space, in all it's glory.
Rest up...
Dear New Albanian:
It's wonderful hearing you have a counter on my blog showing the amount of readers! It surely didn't matter to me...but it was interesting looking at your numbers.
Wasn't there a question you asked -- something to "why am I watching you?" As my husband says, you are an easy mark. Your true colors wave in the wind...and I guess you should be as proud of that and your opinions on all the issues; as am I about mine. We are both still entitled to our opinions, aren't we? Kinda, sorta thought so.
The compliment you paid me for wanting to be a "wannabe" was too kind on your part. In case you do not know same, I am a "has-been".
Served on several local Boards (non-profit) for no pay; did my civic duty (for no pay); so, just watching the walk and paying no heed to the talk.
This is simply my opinion, but I feel sometimes like we are back in college (guess that would be where IUS's influence comes in for you) and we're all sitting around a keg; being philosophical about life in general. Do we have kids -- will they grow up and see a life of sorts; which weighs more -- a piece of white bread or a piece of wheat bread...
Oh, those good ole college days. Maybe I will have a mid-life crisis anyday now, you never know -- so I should be as kind as possible.
Peace.
Dear IAMHOOSIER:
Was truly hoping to hear your thoughts about the two Mayoral Candidates at the Library the other evening, not blasting me for not printing certain comments I felt was unsuitable.
New Albany's "blogmaster" can probably provide you with the set of rules he provided for SPEAKOUTLOUDNA's blog, before it went down. Let's be honest here -- how many times see, read and hear about the rules of "moderation" and "responsible" comments.
And, I shouldn't "assume", but I guess you didn't get your answers to your political questions answered, or maybe you would have shared same.
Take care.
I hear Doug got a big fat campaign contribution from that $300 an hour attorney Anson Keller, the 3.2 million dollar waste of sewer dollars under England's egotistical fantasy he could fight the EPA.
So is Doug wanting another fight with the EPA and a continuation of not fixing the sewers?
Tell us Doug what is your plan since you have all the answers and did so much for us when your reign of error I mean rain of terror occurred, hey Happy Halloween, its nightmare on Main Street
To the Anonymous Commentor who blasted downtown, Harvest Homecoming and all the blogs and why do we have to have a blog war...you'll have to do better than that to get printed on here.
Didn't know there was a blog war going on, either.
Maybe you can start one, though, and enter the fray of things.
My posting was simply my opinions. No one is forcing anyone to read them...trust me.
Peace -- hope you get in better spirits...
Susan, I have come to a realization (no offense to the local Republican Party)...but I feel certain people are just like Karl Rove -- say it enough times and maybe, just maybe, SOMEONE WILL BELIEVE IT. Don't you think?
Yes, I still don't understand why the EMC contract was #1, rushed through long before expiration and #2 -- EMC was hired to bring us out from under the EPA's watch (which they have not and did not achieve). We don't understand...but I think someone else will, or should I say does?
Peace, girlfriend.
Dear Anon:
The blog world surely does not have to show comments they deem inappropriate. As you well know, it is up to the blog administrator's discretion.
It's aggravating to me when those very posters have posted and will not answer any questions posed to same; just derogatories comments -- who needs those?
Peace.
All I am saying, is I am a follower, a reader, usually not a poster. I feel that you can get more "news" from the blogs than you can from the evening news/tribune.
To deny that there has been an explosion of juvenile playground pushing matches is blindly ignorant at best.
There was a time not long ago where every one in this blog world here in New Albany worked together for a common goal of getting this falling apart city glued back together, there was integrity, honesty, cooperation, with the exception of the freedom of speech place.
Now where there was political enlightenment, and progression, it has been replaced with insults, jabs, mistruths and what would appear to be one big giant pissing contest.
Several blogs that were good sources of information are sitting idle, some have moved on to just everyday life things, one is concentrating on frogs!
The two main blogs where a person could go to get the real story behind what is going on have dropped the ball and joined the ranks of the limbaugh-ish smear campaigns.
Sorry if I stepped on your toes about harvest homecoming, but you know its true. It is just not the same anymore, nothing is, this town is dying, and now the last breath of rejuvination in this town is dying with the increased troll like blogging and less and less about making change...
Moderate away, and I will fade back to just reading once in a while, if nothing else it could provide for some good laughs.
Last year I did feel the Harvest was going down hill. There were less booths, no flea market and the State Fire Marshall played a role in all of these events by separating booths, new sources of electric, etc.
As I felt Harvest Homecoming was a success this year (good weather and lots and lots of people), this is the only thing I know drawing people downtown.
Everybody does have the right to feel it was not what they think it use to be; thanks for writing.
My thoughts about the Q & A were posted elsewhere. While you have always posted my comments, there seems to be a shift. Maybe I am assuming. I just want to know the rules before I waste my time writing here.
Mark
Can't be any more blunt than that and I appreciate it. Sorry I missed your comments about the Q & A, truly.
Hopefully, the only rules I impose here (gosh, I hate the sound of that word "impose") is human decency of some sort or another.
No harpooning, no condescending know it all attitude of which I don't even know all of and more importantly, dialogue meaningful to all of us (not just a few).
Gosh knows our opinions probably differ in a lot of ways; at least I feel with some we can respectfully disagree.
Having been in this quagmire of government over X amount of years now; having ran campaigns with my only monies; having debated some of these very candidates running again -- some for same office, others for others -- it's hard to teach this "old" dog new tricks the THIRD time around...
This time, I surely hope to get it right. There are a lot of public enemies I admit I have because of my political stance -- trust me, I attended a Democrat trial on same, but I felt my flag was in better shape at the time and if this City wants to give millions away, give me one (1) and I'll go away.
Anyways, enough rambling. Glad to hear your questions were answered. Hope we have come to peace here and have our opinions.
My disagreements with another individual and their philosophy would be just that -- a difference in opinions. Nothing personal -- though it could be perceived as same.
Peace.
I just realized that you have "pulled" one of my comments. I know it will be no great loss, but you won't have to bother again.
Thanks for the time and space that you have given me in the past.
Mark
As I see no comment of "yours" that has been "pulled", whatever.
The comment section shows no deletions, so I do not know how to address you.
Peace. (You're welcome.)
Yvonne,
You said the HH was the only thing you know drawing people downtown.
Although I admit I did not go downtown on 10/6 the previous first Saturdays seemed to do fairly well.
It was a shame about the Bistro and the problems at the Speakeasy but things seem to be slowly coming around.
I know Madison IN and Glendale KY didn't happen overnight either. Just wish I had a magic wand to make it happen.
"Pulled" was a poor description on my part. "Not posted" would have been more accurate. Your comment of 10-27 @ 11:36 addresses a comment of mine that does not show on my screen. Better?
One thing which does shut almost all businesses down is when they have the Bike Race. If you can even get to a business, like the Little Chef; they are only selling water and coffee to the participant's family members.
We hear more complaining about that event halting ALL business in this town than anything else.
The women, if we can hike into Little Chef, do pick out our favorite gentlemen on bicycles with the best outfits and root for them -- other than that -- My Opinion, and Mine Only, but I do feel this hurts, not helps businesses downtown.
Just a thought.
IAMHOOSIER, the Comment I did not publish of yours pertained to me not publishing another blogger's comments. It wasn't personal to you; I simply feel this blogger doesn't need any help from you to get his comments printed.
Thanks, anyway. Glad I followed up on that one.
