ISSUES WE HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET TO JUST YET...

Having this funeral this morning as it is 2:30 AM and I'm having trouble sleeping, I thought I might pass some things along cluttering up my list of things to do (which people have asked me to address).

1. No, I do not feel the Police should get 4% raise and the rest of the City employees get a 3% raise. As a member of the local FOP and the State FOP and my uncle retired from the force in Ashland and my other uncle past Greenup County Sheriff, you have to know it's nothing personal.

Personally, I feel with 80% of the budget already going there (and the other 20% in Redevelopment what with tax abatements and TIFS); and taxpayers requests about use of police cars out of the City not being addressed; just don't see it. Gosh knows, though, it sure isn't personal.

Another thing, the wanted new sewer board arrangement. Some of us have talked, and we feel if they are willing to take the five employees from Drainage out of there (as they insisted they had to do last year) and they take sanitation out of there and they take drainage out of there and if they take the Accountant and her staff's salary out of there (seeing out Books are outsourced, the least they can do is sign the checks). Then, all of the monies owed to the Sewers needs to be paid back, and then, and only then, could we see the justification in this bill before Council.

Browsing through some other blogs, I'm glad New Albanian is still going after One Southern Indiana. The relationship is going to be through Paul Wheatley, and Mayor-Elect England, etc.

Most of what I mentioned above are, what I feel, Mayor Elect England's ideas, coming through Mr. Coffey. Some people haven't realized the ties that bind and what is now happening is the setting of what is to come.

Well, enough of my opinions.

Still shocked about the harassment of individuals after election day. Maybe I could understand the harassment of Mr. Seabrook and that one could be a joke (hah, hah -- as being maintained)...but Commissioner Bush - in Georgetown? He didn't even vote here. Tim Dietrich wore a Hubbard shirt, so, I guess I can understand that retaliation. The one I truly can't understand is Amani Ali. That one has me stumped, especially knowing her boss had a sister who won on the Democrat ticket and her boss is good friends with Mayor elect England...so I'm puzzled on that one.

Keep plugging...what else can a body say?

Oh, Peace.

Yvonne,
I was targeted for the simple reason that I am friends with Steve Bush and his wife Danna. That is the ONLY reason. Trust me. I know who put the signs; they hate the fact that I can be friends with Steve. But the thing is Steve is an honorable man. I don't care who agrees with our friendship or not. He and I certainly don't agree on everything. But the the thing about Steve is that he is a mature grownup who understands that people can agree to disagree. That can't be said for others.

I say give our officers their raise. I say drop this whole thing regarding take home cars. Expand the Auxiliary Police program, reinstitute foot patrols in troubled area, expand the bicycle patrols, consider motorcycle patrols.
Same as with the fire deaprtment, give them the raises they deserve.
Mr. Coffey's ignorant tribune rants only served to prove that our crime rates are low, probably lower than the national average.
Most of our crime here is property crime, and if you ask me, I will take that any day over violent crime.
And we have our officers, neighborhood watches, and support staff of the PD to thank for having a relatively safe community!

WHAT A MESS! Is someone going to file charges with the prosecutor against the persons involved in the
vandalism of private property by flooding ENGLAND FOR MAYOR signs in several persons yards after the election?

That nasty trick should be made public as well as the persons involved. Where is our city attorney?

Was he on the team that performed this act of vandalism on private property ? It is evident that those persons were staunch England supporters.

What has the Democrat Chairman Stumler had to say about this act?

I wish that your family wasn't always so ill. It seems that you and yours are always going through some illness or tribulation, me and mine will keep you in our prayers. Maybe 2008 will be better... My wish for you is that you find some happiness; it may help if you
enroll in a positive thinking
course. I understand from a recent comment of yours that you were schooled in Law "not criminal"; maybe you could return to school, as you haven't been gainfully employed since moving to New Albany I suspect you might have some time on your hands. IUS does allow outside credits, so long as they were obtained from a reputable and accredited school. I am sure that wouldn¢t be an issue. If that works out then your discussions on behalf of the "little people" may
carry more weight when serving
our great City as 1/2 of the "potty police". I think you could do it and wish you nothing but the best!

The police raise seems to be a moot issue as the budget for 2008 has already been submitted...so we can only assume it will wait until then.

A lot of people can not be friends with others; and I'll never understand it.

Mr. Bush is an honorable man, County Commissioner and a New Albany City Police Detective. Gee. I sure wouldn't want to be friends with someone like that, huh?

Don't know who is going to do what about this mess, if anything can be done at all. The two who did it claim it was just one big joke. As far as I am concerned, one big SICKO joke. Remember, what goes around comes around and every DOG has their day, lol.

As far as the posting about the illnesses in my family, yup; sure has been a bad year for me and mine. Considerate of you to wish me well for the New Year; but the sarcasm kind of overwhelms me. This is someone who cares about me and mine? OK.

If I were you, I would not worry about any type of "gainful" employment I may or may not have had since moving into the New Albany area. What arrogance and ignorance and assumption on your part, whew. Why don't you go back to school? And, as I told you before -- MYOB. Thanks for reading, but if I'm just that boring -- can't you read better elsewhere? Please. Thank you.

Peace.

P.S. Still, McCartinCo -- ignorance is not excuse. I'm sorry we can't be friends or God help us all. Be safe, Yvonne.

Sorry for the typo, world --ignorance is no excuse (i.e., ignorance is bliss). Sorry, thanks.

FisCon: I want to apologize; I certainly didn’t mean anything derogatory in my last posting. Not being gainfully employed was meant as a compliment, not many people are lucky enough to be able to retire at such a young age. You have accomplished so much and you are still so young. And yes, with retirement comes free time; I sincerely appreciate all of the efforts you have put in being a “watch-dog” on the elected. I probably overstepped when I suggested that you back up your good intentions with a formal education, you could definitely make your critics sweat! Keep plugging away and happy holidays!

Thank you for the clarification. I simply am not as young as you may think I am and what with 3 grandchildren and one on the way -- IUS would be out of my league.

My formal and political education and government financial information, along with the sewer information gathered over X amount of years more than makes up for IU. Besides, after running for Mayor twice on my own monies; I think I paid my dues civically.

Thanks again. Sorry if I miscontrued.

Peace.

Does 80% actually go to the Police Department? Where does the money for the Fire Department come from? I thought their expenses were comparable...
I don't understand why having relatives in the business makes your comment not personal. If you have a thought concerning an appropriation of funds, I would consider it personal. Own it. You are apposed to the City Police receiving a 4% raise. You have it written on your own blog. I don't think that the police should be reprimanded by a blog or denied a raise because their management made a determination that they felt was in the best interest of the citizens. When you make a written statement it is absolutely personal. Blogs are not emails to friends, they are public statements.

A Democrat in Floyd County said...

No, it's actually 86% of the budget, and I would think this includes the police and fire.

The issue with the police was not the 3% raise, as I understand it, but the longevity issue.

Whether I choose to say what I feel about law enforcement, and the support (especially) I have shown New Albany's -- I own what I write. Respect is earned.

Whatever to the rest of the "blogs are not emails to friends, they are public statements" -- yes SIR...they just might call that FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

Of course, please allow me to the disclaimer -- this is my personal opinion, my writing style, and however you interpret the rest is totally up to you.

Peace.

BTW, the "longevity issue" will be appropriated from the Riverboat Fund; just in case you were wondering.

Personally, after marching for police and fire under Overton; personally, after discovering two sets of books being kept by the Controller under Overton and helping restore both police and firefighters' hire dates; that might be why I said it was nothing personal.

Respect, too, for my past Uncles, who were police officers. Guess it's something you may be born with; are you lacking in same? Just a thought on my part, or why the unnecessary rhetoric?

Nite.

RE: My possible lack of respect. I offer respect rarely, and only after familiarizing myself with the individual and recognizing their motives. Personal gain would immediately disqualify the potential recipient, as would speaking ill of another. Humility and honesty are traits I hold in high regard.

As well it should be.
