The Whole Durn Town Ought To Turn Out!!!!!!

Thank you for the info on your blog, Eastender. We can't make it to Council tomorrow evening, but sending word with our Council member on our feelings about the "whole" "situation". Even the head of the State Auditing "thang", Mr. Charlie Pride, (heads up auditing of sewer utilities' finances, and other issues at the State level), told the citizenry and the Administration this "COULD NOT HAPPEN TO OUR EQUIPMENT". The Mayor feels he legally usurped the law by "leasing" our equipment to this company, but besides these photos, there are a lot more unanswered questions.

1. No one can find the "signed Contract" anywhere in the City-County building. ALL contracts are to be legally filed in the County Recorder's office, and I think her name is Anne Berger (nice lady).

2. We would like to see the lease payments made to the City (some type of record and/or receipt of same monies).

3. We want to know why this company is using our building, our utilities, our equipment, and who is paying for the insurance. With the red truck having been wrecked on McDonald Lane by Eco-Tech (who?), who paid the claims, if any? Now what happens to the truck?

4. This situation smelled as rotten when it appeared before Council as it smelled when Overton bought the "big red monsters". The biggest joke I think was this one analogy they used to purchase the trucks (which wouldn't fit down the alleys and served no good purpose especially with regards to recycling) was this...remember, there is a law on the books (hah, hah) the City doesn't HAVE TO pick up your garbage if your garbage is not in a container WITH A LID. Remember how they would squeeze and compact the trucks and liquid would come out, right? No, my fellow citizens...that supposedly didn't happen and according to the BS at Council that night, there were so much LIQUIDS within our trash it was costing us a fortune at the dumps, and of course, the LIQUIDS were rain (had to, no ifs, ands, or buts). I sat in that meeting thinking about the green bean juice I may have thrown into my garbage; leftover soup; old leftovers with liquids of some type and then I'd remember how they would compact that truck and I kept thinking, "are they nuts?, or am I"?

Now, Garner made that a promise - - "he was going to do something about these trucks". I don't believe anyone thought he would do what he did, and there is still a lot to find out about exactly what he did do. The question is, Mayor Garner, (and having sat there and looked out at the "political army" that got people into office before, trust me -- pshew, 500 or more) is who's backs are you going to ride in on now? The police and the fire? Most of the gentlemen who worked for sanitation and the street department are the "bee workers" and yes, they still live in the City of New Albany, and they still vote. You didn't keep your promise to them, and they're not looking very kindly at you as a candidate this time around.

If anyone does attend the Council meeting tomorrow evening and wishes to speak to this issue, which me and mine can't attend due to other obligations, please remember to sign the "Non-Agenda" sheet of paper. If you sign the "Agenda" one, they will not let you speak, because it's not on the Agenda...yet.

Too many questions and a very good time to ask them though, I must admit. There are some people who would like to be elected out there about right now and you can certainly get a lot accomplished, simply by trying. "Trust Me!" Happy Valentine's Day New Albany, and more about sewers in the next posting.

Again, thanks to those who did the homework on this issue so we can finally find out what the hey is going on with OUR PUBLIC EQUIPMENT.

The link is speakoutloudna.blogspot.com for pictures of our equipment somewhere out on Dixie Highway.

If anyone does show up and sign up to speak on non-agenda items, would someone please ask Council where the City stands when it comes to the Broadus lawsuit? Where are we at on this issue?

We could ask about the Fox and Cotner litigation, too, but the first one is probably all they can handle in one night. They may not even be allowed to comment on it if it's still in litigation.

Haven't heard of too many "Executive Sessions", though, come to think about it.

Where's the DVD lawsuit stand and how is it going?

I'm hearing rumors of a "special" City Council meeting being called. Wonder why?

I like the story I heard last night about two elderly members of Mr. Toran's church call one of our council members and try and talk about the fire hiring procedures (they are each on a different extension). When this council person asked if they didn't feel firefighters should at least be able to pass an 8th grade test, the man replied yes and his wife replied at the same time she didn't think they needed to be tested. Funny story. Thanks for sharing.

So many questions, not enough hours in the day probably, for the answers, hey?

RE: the special council meeting. Yesterday's Tribune reported that the mayor is thinking of calling this meeting because the proposal is still in committee.

I couldn't tell if you were kidding when you said "Wonder why?"

If you were kidding, please disregard this posting.

Nah, I wasn't kidding. Boy, I sure did pick an interesting time to show up at the City Council!

Eastern Star let us out early so I stopped by, figuring I wouldn't be able to get my 2 cents worth in because I didn't get signed in at the beginning of things.

Things at first seemed like they were pretty much wrapped up, and then boom...Mr. Baylor asked Mr. Stewart if he was really running for office. Mr. Stewart replied he was, and well...the rest is unprintable as to what Mr. Baylor said. They were both ejected from the meeting, with Mr. Baylor then taking snapshots of Mr. Price through the glass windows.

I did get to speak and ask for the resolution to look into the Sanitation contract, i.e., lease agreements, use of our building and utilities, etc.

Mr. Coffey and I had a tango going, so to speak. It pretty much ended up being said they didn't have enough money to buy new equipment or hire any personnel. I then took him back and reminded him if they would just reel those TIF areas in, we'd be okay...and fix the sewers downtown. He smiled and I smiled and we left that one at that.

They kind of agreed if the department heads go over their budgets any month, Council should call them up to explain as to why.

When I asked if the Chief's request for new automobiles were in the "unapproved" as of yet budget, the Council replied no. I simply told them it really should be, that's how budgets work. As the Controller has asked Councilmembers to hold all expenditures until the budget gets approved, all expenditures were tabled, "I think".

Never a dull day, to say the least. Peace.

I asked him if he came to race bait, or to masturbate. A fair question, considering his inciteful demeanor.

Let the record show: He started it. He always does.

Thank you for setting me straight on what was said. I thought you asked him if he was really going to run for office and then the other thang you said.

I'm not going to get into the middle of who started it. Didn't get there in time to witness.

I just want to let the record show what the true statements were..., according to one of the gentlemen involved in said ejections, though both had to come back and retrieve their coats.

I appreciate the opportunity. I made a comment aloud that it was CM Price's best performance yet, then Mr. Stweart turned around and began heckling me. I responded as noted above. It does not exonerate me from culpability, as I might have remained silent, but the record should show that as on so many numerous occasions before, it was he who initiated the contact.

Thank you for your further explanations...but I still will not engage in the issue of who started what when...because I really don't know. Thanks.

So, let me get this straight.
Mr. Baylor first heckled CM Price aloud during a council session, then Mr. Stewart 'heckled' Mr. Baylor.
Yet, Mr. Baylor contends Mr. Stewart "started it".!?
Mr. Baylor's foul mouthed retort to Mr. Stewart sealed the deal, and got them both ejected from the meeting.
Sounds to me as if Mr. Baylor both started and ended that episode.
Since when does a person NOT get escorted out of the building once they have been removed from a public meeting?

I really don't know who started it, or when. I only heard Mr. Baylor ask Mr. Stewart if he was really running for office, and then a word Mr. Baylor said sort of resonated throughout the chambers.

Mr. Stewart has called me to make sure he didn't offend me, and I assured him he didn't. He does wonder why he was ordered out of the building, and why Mr. Baylor was allowed to stay; but I can't answer that question, either.

And on and on it goes, hey?
